The North Central Railway (NCR) is ready to help thousands of pilgrims coming for the Maha Kumbh festival. They will run more than 300 trains, including 80 special ones, to make sure people can easily travel to Prayagraj.
Shashi Kant Tripathi, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NCR, shared that everything is set—crowd control, train services, ticket counters, and safety measures are all prepared. The railway has been planning for this event for two years, so they feel confident in welcoming everyone.
Special long-distance trains started running on January 1, and new local trains will begin tomorrow when the Maha Kumbh starts. With Makar Sankranti coming soon, more special trains will be added.
Around 4,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 10,000 from the Government Railway Police (GRP) are in place to help manage the large crowds. Tripathi mentioned that they can move about 400,000 people from Prayagraj if needed.
To help manage crowds, special entry and exit points have been created. Travelers can now enter from the city side and exit from another side to avoid mixing. They have also set up ticket counters and waiting areas to help passengers.
To make things easier, the NCR is using languages that many people understand. They have made announcements in different languages, set up toll-free numbers for help, and have staff who can assist in various native languages.
Dilip Kumar, from the Railway Board, mentioned that about 13,000 trains will run during the Kumbh Mela, which is expected to attract 40 crore visitors. Significant improvements have also been made at nearby train stations to ensure better services and passenger facilities.
The Maha Kumbh takes place every 12 years and is expected to draw over 45 crore people this time. The main event will conclude on February 26, with important bathing days on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).
