Islamabad, Jan 12, 2025 – Malala Yousafzai, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, spoke out on Sunday, urging Muslim leaders not to support the Afghan Taliban government. She believes they should stand up against the Taliban’s restrictions on girls’ education. “Don’t give them legitimacy,” she told education officials at a summit focused on girls’ education in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
Malala, who is now 27 years old, emphasized that Muslim leaders have the power to make a difference. She encouraged them to raise their voices for girls’ rights. “You can show true leadership,” Yousafzai said.
Officials from the Taliban did not attend the two-day summit, even though they were invited, according to Pakistan’s Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. Malala stated bluntly, “The Taliban do not see women as human beings.” She criticized their actions and said they mask their wrongdoing with cultural and religious excuses. Malala herself was shot in the face by the Pakistani Taliban when she was just 15 years old for standing up for girls’ education.
