New Delhi: India has agreed to send 200,000 tonnes of wheat to Nepal, a decision made during a two-day meeting between the two countries. The meeting focused on trade, transit, and cooperation and took place in Kathmandu.

An Indian team, led by Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, discussed problems with milk exports to Nepal. Nepal’s representatives said they would think positively about importing specific milk products like whey and cheese, which are not made enough in Nepal.

The two sides also talked about ways to stop illegal trade between them. They reviewed how to improve access to each other’s markets and discussed rules about duties and rights related to business.

In response to Nepal’s request, India agreed to allow Nepali trucks to follow the same weight regulations as Indian trucks when transporting goods through specific routes.

The Indian team also discussed some plant products that Nepal wanted to send to India. This included sal seeds and bouquet items. On the other hand, Nepal was open to discussing changes regarding product classifications that India had asked for.

Both sides appreciated the ongoing efforts to make it easier to trade between India and Nepal, including building new checkpoints and railway connections. A Joint Business Forum, organized by business organizations from both countries, was also held during the meeting.
