On Sunday, Congress announced a new scheme called “Yuva Udaan Yojana,” aimed at helping educated but jobless young people in Delhi. If Congress wins the upcoming elections, they promise to give these youths ₹8,500 every month for a year.
Sachin Pilot, a Congress leader and former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, explained that this money won’t be given for doing nothing at home. Instead, he said, “We will provide financial support to young people who can show their skills by working in a company, factory, or organization.” The idea is for these young people to earn the money while working and improving their skills.
This isn’t the first plan Congress has announced for the Delhi elections. On January 6, they introduced the “Pyari Didi Yojana,” which promises ₹2,500 per month to women if they win. A few days later, on January 8, they launched the “Jeevan Raksha Yojana,” which offers free health insurance up to ₹25 lakh.
Voting for the 70-seat Delhi assembly will take place on February 5, with results coming out on February 8. Congress hasn’t been in power in Delhi since December 2013 when they were replaced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP won a huge number of seats in the past two elections, while Congress didn’t win any at all
