On Sunday, Atishi, the Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Kalkaji, began a crowdfunding campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. She expressed hope that people would support her party’s focus on honest work.
During a press conference in Delhi, Atishi shared an online link where people can donate money. She mentioned that she needs ₹40 lakh for her campaign. Atishi highlighted that the AAP has always relied on small donations from ordinary people, which has allowed them to focus on honest politics.
On the social media platform X, Atishi thanked her supporters, saying, “Over the past 5 years, you’ve stood by me as an MLA, a minister, and now as the Chief Minister. I couldn’t have done this without your support.” She also noted, “As a young and educated woman, your faith and donations have helped me pursue a career in politics. Now, as we prepare for this election, I need your help again.”
In December, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who is running for election in Jangpura, also launched a crowdfunding effort to gather support for his campaign.
All 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly will be up for election on February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. The AAP hopes to win for a third time after securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020. The BJP won three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020, while the Congress did not win any seats.
Even though Congress and AAP are part of the same alliance called INDIA, they will not be working together for this election in Delhi. Atishi criticized the BJP for not announcing their candidate for Chief Minister yet. She claimed that they have credible information that the BJP will choose Ramesh Bidhuri, who is known for his harsh comments, as their candidate.
