A strange email from the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) team has confused students all over India. The email, which started with “Dear IDLI CHUTNEY NO SAMBHAR,” has become popular online, making people laugh and worry. Some think it was a mistake, while others worry it might be a security problem.
This email was supposed to inform students that their admit cards were ready on the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) portal. But instead, it confused everyone. A Reddit user posted a screenshot, and it quickly got over 2,800 likes, leading to lots of discussions and funny memes. One user asked why some people received a normal email, while others got the strange one, and another joked about the missing sambhar, a South Indian dish.
Responses from students varied. Some found it funny, while others were concerned. One person worried that IIT Roorkee’s email system might have been hacked, while another mentioned it could be a technical error like an SQL Injection—a type of problem hackers use to access data.
GATE is an important exam for students wanting to pursue Master’s and Doctoral programs in engineering and science and for jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The exam for GATE 2025 will be held on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, and will be taken by students on computers in eight zones across India.
The GOAPS portal is essential for GATE candidates because that’s where they get their admit cards. So, any weird activity or communication mistake gets a lot of attention. Even though people are talking about this email, IIT Roorkee hasn’t said anything about it, which has made students even more confused. They’re not sure if this was a joke, a true mistake, or something more serious, and many are questioning if they can trust the GATE administration.
