The Uttar Pradesh Police recently said there will not be a new investigation into the communal riots that occurred in Sambhal in 1978, which resulted in multiple deaths. The police clarified that some people are spreading false information on social media, claiming that a reinvestigation is happening.

Sambhal Superintendent of Police, Krishna Kumar Bishnoi, explained that a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Shreesh Chandra Sharma, had asked for information about the 1978 riots in a letter on December 17. The government then asked the police for details, which they are gathering. Bishnoi assured everyone that after collecting all the information, it would be sent to the government.

This clarification comes after rumors started spreading about a possible investigation into the old riots. Recently, tension in Sambhal rose after violence erupted during a court-ordered survey at the Shahi Jama Masjid on November 24, leading to the deaths of four people and injuring several others.
