Iran is upset about a poster on a bus in a French city. The poster showed Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and compared him to leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. The city of Beziers used this poster to promote recycling by saying, “Don’t forget to sort the trash.”
Iran’s foreign ministry said this poster is disrespectful to their culture and leaders. Majid Nili, who works for Iran’s foreign ministry, said using such images goes against basic rules that honor different cultures. He asked the French government to stop these actions from happening again.
Meanwhile, France is warning its citizens to stay away from Iran until three French nationals held there are released. French officials call them “hostages.” French President Emmanuel Macron said Iran is a major threat to security in France and Europe, focusing on it in future talks with the incoming U.S. President Donald Trump.
Iran responded to Macron’s comments, calling them false and encouraging France to think more carefully about its approach to peace and stability.
