To show that they are working together before the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, the communist parties have decided to support each other. They plan to compete for six assembly seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will run for two seats: Karawal Nagar and Badarpur.

On Thursday, Brinda Karat, a leader from CPI(M), announced a slogan: “BJP hatao, Delhi bachao” (defeat BJP, save Delhi). She stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is harming the rights of Delhi’s people, and it is important to stop them.

The three communist parties – CPI(M), CPI, and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) – will each contest two seats. Brinda Karat explained that their main goal is to defeat the BJP. In areas where they are not running, they will decide whom to support based on their analysis.

Karat criticized the BJP, saying that they have taken away some powers from the Delhi government, which the Supreme Court had protected. She believes the BJP is damaging people’s rights in Delhi and must be stopped.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also receiving help from other parties to defeat the BJP in the elections. AAP MP Sanjay Singh claims that his party is the only one capable of defeating the BJP in Delhi. Other parties like Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party are backing AAP in this election.

Although Congress and AAP are both part of a group called the INDIA bloc, they are competing against each other in this election.

The Delhi assembly elections will take place on February 5, and the counting of votes will happen on February 8. Candidates need to file their nominations by January 17, and the last day to withdraw from the race is January 20.

The Congress party previously ruled Delhi for 15 years but has not won any seats in the last two elections. In contrast, the AAP won a huge victory in the 2020 elections, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP managed to win only eight.
