Boby Chemmanur, a well-known businessman and jeweler, was arrested on Wednesday for making inappropriate comments towards a female actor. The police reported that he was taken into custody at his resort in Meppadi, Wayanad, and brought to Kochi. He will likely stay at the police station tonight and appear in court tomorrow.
The female actor claimed that Chemmanur made lewd remarks about her on January 7, both on social media and at the opening of his jewelry store. She filed a complaint that also included names of 30 other people who made inappropriate comments on her social media posts. So far, a 60-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this issue.
On Tuesday, the actor addressed Chemmanur in a social media post, stating, “You may trust your money, but I trust the law of the country.” She also thanked the state police and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for their quick response.
The actor expressed how harmful social media can be, saying, “You don’t need weapons to attack someone today; all you need is fake social media accounts to spread cruel and obscene comments. The damage increases when there is someone leading this online bullying.”
Chemmanur has said that he did not mean to offend the actor and apologized if his remarks upset her feelings. He faces charges under the law for sexual harassment and for sharing obscene material online.
