After three cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) were confirmed in India, Health Minister JP Nadda assured everyone that this virus isn’t new. In a video message, he urged people to stay calm and not to worry.

He explained that HMPV was first found in 2001 and has been around for years, affecting people of all ages. The virus spreads mainly through the air, especially during winter and early spring.

As of now, India has reported two cases in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and one in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. HMPV usually causes mild cold-like illness but may be more serious for babies and those with weak immune systems.

Nadda mentioned that health experts are watching the situation closely, especially because other countries, like China, have also reported cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) is involved too and will share updates soon.

He reassured everyone that there is no significant increase in other respiratory viruses in India. The health systems are prepared and alert to respond to any health challenges. So, there’s no reason to be alarmed right now!
