New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj recently criticized BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri for making insulting comments about Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Bhardwaj said, “When the election results come, we will see who is really in charge.” This was in response to Bidhuri, who, while speaking at a public event, made disrespectful remarks about Atishi’s surname and family background, implying she had changed her identity.

Atishi, formerly known as Marlena, has taken on the last name Singh. After hearing Bidhuri’s comments, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal also condemned him, stating on social media that BJP leaders have gone too far in insulting Chief Minister Atishi. Kejriwal expressed that the people of Delhi will not accept such behavior and will respond during the upcoming assembly elections, emphasizing that women will stand up for their leader.

Saurabh Bhardwaj noted that he was surprised the Congress party had not spoken out against Bidhuri’s comments about Priyanka Gandhi, where he suggested BJP could make roads in Kalkaji as smooth as her cheeks if they won power. Bhardwaj insisted that Bidhuri should apologize for his statements, as such language is unacceptable in a civilized society.

In response to the backlash, Ramesh Bidhuri expressed regret over his earlier remarks about Priyanka Gandhi, clarifying that his comments were related to past statements made by Lalu Prasad Yadav. He claimed that Congress had remained silent on similar remarks previously. Congress leaders have criticized Bidhuri’s comments, accusing the BJP of promoting an anti-women mentality.

The assembly elections in Delhi are expected to take place in February 2025. The Congress party, which had ruled for 15 years, has struggled in the last two elections. In the 2020 assembly polls, AAP won 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured 8 seats.
