On Sunday, the Israeli military announced that they had attacked over 100 targets in the Gaza Strip in just two days. This came after reports from rescuers in Gaza that many people had been killed in these strikes. The military said they focused on places where Palestinian fighters had been launching rockets into Israel.
Gaza’s civil defense agency reported that more than 30 people were killed in attacks on Saturday alone. Last week, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that attacks would increase if the rockets from Gaza did not stop.
Recently, there has been renewed rocket fire from Gaza, causing air raid sirens to go off in Israeli towns that were heavily damaged during Hamas’s attacks in October 2023. Although the rocket launches are not as frequent as before, militants in Gaza have increased their attacks again.
This new wave of violence comes as efforts to negotiate a deal for the release of hostages and a ceasefire are happening in Qatar. Countries like Qatar, Egypt, and the United States have been working for months to reach an agreement to end the conflict and secure the freedom of hostages still held in Gaza.
