New Delhi woke up to heavy fog on Sunday morning, causing major problems with transportation. Fifty-one trains were delayed, and some flights had to be rescheduled because of the fog, which made it hard to see anything—visibility dropped to zero! This zero visibility lasted from 4 AM to 7:30 AM.
Forty-eight hours earlier, there was fog for nine hours, but thankfully, Sunday had a shorter fog period of 3.5 hours. The temperature in New Delhi stayed cool, reaching a maximum of 18.6 degrees Celsius, which is a little lower than usual, and a minimum of 9.4 degrees Celsius. The humidity (the amount of water in the air) was quite high, ranging from 83 to 95 percent.
Looking ahead to Monday, the weather forecast predicts a cloudy sky with very light rain and even some thunderstorms possible in the morning. There will also be smog and fog in many areas. The wind will start slow but should speed up later in the day before dying down again by evening. Expect temperatures to be around 18 degrees Celsius during the day and 11 degrees Celsius at night.
In addition, the air quality in New Delhi remains poor, with an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 339. This number is concerning because it falls in the ‘very poor’ category, which can be harmful to health.
