The temporary government in Bangladesh has canceled a plan for 50 judges to get training in India. A spokesperson from the law ministry confirmed the cancellation but did not explain why. According to The Daily Star newspaper, this decision was made because Bangladesh’s Supreme Court gave a directive to do so. Just a day before the cancellation, it was reported that these judges were supposed to attend a one-day training program on February 10 in Madhya Pradesh, India. The judges involved were various levels of district judges. The Indian government was going to pay for the entire training.
The relationship between India and Bangladesh has been tense since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh on August 5 last year after protests led by students. Following these changes, there have been incidents of violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh, and many are concerned. India has expressed worries about the situation, especially after a Hindu monk was arrested for sedition and denied bail last month.
