On Saturday morning, people in Noida woke up to thick fog as a cold wave swept through the area. Visibility was very low, making the city look like a scene from a spooky movie. Many residents shared pictures and videos on social media, showing how foggy and beautiful Noida had become.

Delhi Also Faces Fog Trouble; Travel Affected

Nearby Delhi experienced the same thick fog. This caused problems for flights at the airport. Between 12:15 am and 1:30 am, 15 flights had to be redirected due to the bad visibility. This was the second day in a row that flights were affected.

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, paused all incoming and outgoing flights. Other airlines, including Air India, told passengers to check their flight status and allow extra time to reach the airport. On the ground, multiple trains arriving at the New Delhi railway station were delayed, causing more trouble because of the cold.

Temperature Drops and Air Quality Declines

The India Meteorological Department reported that Delhi’s temperature was 10.2°C at 5:30 am, slightly warmer than 9.6°C the day before. However, the cold wave was still felt strongly. The city’s air quality was rated ‘very poor,’ with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 385 at 6 am, compared to 348 the day before. This raised worries for the residents facing the cold weather.

People Find Ways to Stay Warm

With temperatures dropping and fog making it even chillier, the night shelters in Delhi were full. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) set up 235 new tents in places like AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and under the Nizamuddin flyover to help those in need. Many people gathered around bonfires for warmth, while others relied on the shelters to stay safe from the frigid weather.
