Filmmaker and actor Farhan Akhtar has shared his support for Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma after Rohit decided to step down from the fifth Test match against Australia. On Instagram, Farhan called Rohit a “superstar” and praised his choice, which he felt should be celebrated rather than criticized.

Farhan expressed his feelings in a post, saying, “I just need to say this… This guy has done so much for Indian cricket and has been an amazing captain.” He highlighted Rohit’s talent with the bat, mentioning that he has played many great innings. Farhan pointed out that every cricketer has tough times, and even the best can struggle. He noted that people often wish for these players to take a break to regain their form.

Farhan admired Rohit for prioritizing the team’s success over his individual performance, saying, “Instead of being recognized for this selflessness, many people are criticizing him.” He encouraged others to appreciate Rohit’s decision, pointing out that it takes strength to put the team first. He ended with a positive message to Rohit, saying he looks forward to seeing him back on the field soon.

Rohit explained that he stepped down because he felt he wasn’t playing well, but clarified that he is not retiring. Critics had speculated that his omission from this important game could signal the end of his Test career, especially since he hasn’t scored over 10 runs in his last five innings. Rohit revealed that he had been honest with his coach and selectors about needing someone in form for this critical match.

Rohit missed the first Test to welcome his second child but is determined to stay in the game. He previously stepped back from T20 internationals after leading the team to a World Cup victory.

Farhan Akhtar is also busy with his upcoming movie, “120 Bahadur,” where he plays an army officer during the 1962 Indo-China war. The film will be released in 2025.
