On Friday, China shared some important news about recent flu reports, reassuring everyone that it is safe for foreigners to visit the country. Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, explained that respiratory infections often happen during winter, but this year’s flu cases seem to be less severe than last year.
“Respiratory infections usually peak in winter in the northern part of the world,” she told the media. Although some videos on social media show hospitals being crowded, she emphasized that the situation is under control.
Mao also stated, “The diseases this year are spreading less and appear to be milder compared to last year. I can assure you that the Chinese government cares about the health of both its citizens and visitors. Traveling in China is safe.”
In response to these reports, India’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is carefully watching the situation in India. They are communicating with global health agencies about the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which has been mentioned in connection with the outbreak in China.
Dr. Atul Goel, the Director General of Health Services in India, shared, “HMPV is a common virus that causes cold symptoms, similar to other respiratory viruses.” He reassured people that, after looking at December data, there hasn’t been a big increase in flu cases in India, and there is no cause for concern.
