Next week, Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, will travel to India to discuss important technology partnerships. This meeting will focus on the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), a plan to work together on advanced military gear and new technologies. It is thought to be the last meeting between the current Indian leaders and the outgoing American President Joe Biden.

Sullivan will be in India on January 6-7, although his visit hasn’t been officially announced yet. He will meet Ajit Doval, the Indian National Security Advisor, to see how well the iCET initiative is progressing. This will be the third meeting about iCET since it began in January 2023. Sullivan previously visited India in June 2024 for the second round of talks, where both sides agreed on steps to improve their technology partnership.

During this visit, Sullivan is also expected to meet with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He will give a talk titled “The United States and India: Building a Shared Future” in New Delhi on January 6. This visit comes just over a week after Jaishankar met Sullivan in the US on December 27. Jaishankar also met Michael Waltz, who is nominated by Trump to be the next National Security Advisor.
