Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, was asked if captain Rohit Sharma will play in the last Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia is leading the series 2-1, after India lost two out of three Tests, despite winning the first one in Perth with Jasprit Bumrah as captain.
Rohit has not been in great form, losing his last six Tests as captain. In a recent press conference, Gambhir filled in for Rohit, which is unusual since captains usually attend these events. When questioned about Rohit’s absence, Gambhir assured everyone that “everything is fine” and it’s not a big deal for the head coach to represent the team.
Gambhir said they will check the wicket and make their final decision about the team later. Rohit is having a tough time with the bat, scoring just 164 runs in 15 innings this season, averaging only 10.93, with one half-century. During their Australia tour, Rohit scored only 31 runs, and his average in Melbourne dropped to 6.20, making it the lowest ever for a touring captain in Australia (minimum five innings). The previous record was held by Courtney Walsh from West Indies
