The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has made a new list of important medical tests that should be available at hospitals and health clinics across the country. This revised list suggests that nine key tests, such as those for diabetes, malaria, tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and syphilis, should be easily accessible in health centers located in villages.
For special health centers called Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, there will be extra testing for Hepatitis B, along with the nine basic tests. The new list was created after talking to experts and gathering feedback from many meetings. It improves on the first list from 2019 and suggests necessary tests for different levels of healthcare facilities, including village health clinics, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, primary health centers (PHCs), community health centers (CHCs), sub-district hospitals (SDHs), and district hospitals (DHs).
The new guidelines reveal that tests for sicknesses like dengue and Japanese Encephalitis, along with X-ray and ECG services, should be available at Primary Health Centers. Additionally, district hospitals must have facilities for CT scans, MRI, mammography, and echocardiography.
