A tech worker from Bengaluru has shared advice on social media for young people in their early 20s. Shobhit Shrivastava believes that people aged 20 to 25 should spend money on things that help them be more productive. He suggests buying items like an Apple MacBook, joining a gym, getting noise-canceling headphones, and hiring someone to cook and clean for them.
Shrivastava says young adults should stop being scared to spend money and instead try to earn more so that these purchases don’t lead to debt. He wrote, “If you’re in your early 20s, don’t hold back when it comes to spending on things that help you succeed. Invest in a MacBook, noise-canceling headphones, gym memberships, and even a maid for cooking and cleaning. Get the books you want too! Stop being overly frugal. This is the time to make smart investments in yourself to increase how much money you can make in the future.”
Social media users are divided over his advice. Some agree with him, while others think it’s unrealistic. One person pointed out that his list is easier to follow if you don’t have other financial responsibilities. Shrivastava acknowledged this, saying family responsibilities can make saving important. Another user commented that his advice seems good only if you earn around 80,000 to 85,000 rupees a month. Someone else added that it’s important to manage your money wisely while ensuring you can also handle everyday chores and live without expensive items sometimes.
