Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, opened a new glass bridge on Monday that connects the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the tall Thiruvalluvar statue in Kanyakumari. This bridge is special because it is said to be the first glass bridge in India! It was opened to celebrate 25 years since the Thiruvalluvar statue was revealed by the late leader M. Karunanidhi.

The glass bridge is 77 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 133 feet high. It has been built to resist windy and humid weather from the sea, ensuring it will last a long time. Now, instead of taking a ferry to travel between these two tourist spots, people can walk across this amazing bridge and enjoy a fantastic view of the ocean.

After the opening, Stalin and other government officials walked on the bridge, and a beautiful light show took place at the Thiruvalluvar statue. Stalin praised the famous Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar and announced that the last week of December will be celebrated as “Thirukkural Week” to honor his important teachings.

On the other hand, Edappadi K Palaniswami from the AIADMK party said that this project was planned and given the go-ahead when he was the Chief Minister. He mentioned that since Kanyakumari attracts many tourists, he had asked for a bridge to connect these two popular sites.
