The Independent has created a list of the 60 best actors from the 21st century. The amazing part? They included actors from all over the world but did not mention any shows or movies released after the year 2000. Among all these talented actors, there is only one from India: the late Irrfan Khan, who ranked #41.
Irrfan Khan, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 53, had a tough start in his career that lasted over ten years, from the late 1980s until the early 2000s. His big break came with the 2001 film “The Warrior,” directed by Asif Kapadia. The Independent praised Irrfan’s strong and calm performance in the role of a warrior from his home state of Rajasthan.
He gained more recognition with important roles in films like “Haasil” (2003), “Maqbool” (2003), and “The Namesake” (2006), directed by Mira Nair. Other significant films of his include “Life In A Metro,” “The Lunchbox,” “Paan Singh Tomar,” and “Life of Pi.” The Independent described his eyes as “hooded and deep brown,” giving him the unique ability to create magic on-screen and express deep emotions without saying a word.
The best actor of the 21st century according to this list is Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died in 2014. Emma Stone, known for movies like “La La Land,” came in at #2. Daniel Day-Lewis was ranked #3 after announcing his retirement in 2016 but is back on screen now. Denzel Washington, recently seen in “Gladiator II,” was placed at #4. The other actors from #5 to #10 include Nicole Kidman, Daniel Kaluuya, Song Kang Ho, Cate Blanchett, Colin Farrell, and Florence Pugh.
