The ashes of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were immersed in the Yamuna River at Yamuna Ghat, near the Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tila in Delhi. This happened a day after he was cremated with full state honors at Nigambodh Ghat.

Earlier in the day, Manmohan Singh’s family brought his ashes to the Gurdwara. They performed special prayers and songs, known as Shabad Kirtan and Paath, to honor him. Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney shared that the ashes would be put in the Yamuna River, followed by prayers called Ardas at the Gurdwara.

Gursharan Kaur, Manmohan Singh’s wife, was also present at the Gurdwara to participate in the ceremonies. On Saturday, he was cremated with great respect at Nigambodh Ghat in front of family, friends, and dignitaries. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid their last respects by placing flowers near his body.

The ceremonies followed Sikh traditions, with his body placed on a wooden pyre made of sandalwood. Many leaders from the Congress Party, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, attended to pay their respects, as well as thousands of supporters who gathered outside his home.

After a Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah told Kharge and Manmohan Singh’s family that the government would provide a place for a memorial in his honor.

Dr. Singh had a long and notable political career, serving as Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, where he led important economic changes that helped grow India’s economy. He was the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014, succeeding Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His time in office is remembered for his wise management during tough economic times and for modernizing India’s economy. After his second term, he stepped away from public life but left a legacy of growth and global recognition. Narendra Modi succeeded him in 2014 after the Congress-led UPA lost the elections.
