The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the temperatures in parts of northwest and central India, including Delhi, are set to drop. Over the coming days, we may see temperatures fall by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, said, “Temperatures will drop gradually, starting today. We expect a decrease of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in many areas of northwest India and central India.”
Over the next two days, people in Punjab and Haryana should be ready for dense fog, which will make it hard to see while driving. Dr. Kumar added, “We are expecting very thick fog in Punjab and Haryana for the next two days.”
Even though the temperatures have been warmer than usual, the IMD believes they will soon go back to normal. Dr. Kumar mentioned that we should feel colder today, especially in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. However, he clarified that “no cold wave” is expected in Delhi right now.
In Delhi, the temperature has dropped to 12 degrees Celsius, and a thin fog covered the city on Sunday.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the cold has been intense due to recent snowfall. The popular ski resort Gulmarg recorded a chilling low of minus 8 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam, another tourist spot, saw even colder temperatures at minus 8.5 degrees Celsius. In Srinagar, temperatures dipped to minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above the usual temperature for this time of year.
Right now, Kashmir is experiencing ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the coldest part of winter, which started on December 21.
