Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on a hunger strike for 34 days to fight for farmers’ rights. Farmer leaders in Khanauri are staying calm and peaceful in their protests, saying it’s up to the government if they want to forcefully remove Dallewal. This comes after the Supreme Court criticized the Punjab government for not taking Dallewal to the hospital.

Farmers are at the Punjab-Haryana border asking the government for several things, including a promise to give them a fair price for their crops. Abhimanyu Kohar, a farmer leader, said that the government has been trying to make farmers look bad. He stated that it’s the government that is ignoring their requests, not the farmers who are being stubborn.

Kohar also made it clear that if anything happens to Dallewal, the government will be responsible. He encouraged all citizens to stand up for the farmers’ cause, emphasizing that they are very close to winning their fight. Dallewal is very committed and has said he would sacrifice his life for the farmers.

Meanwhile, farmers are planning a big meeting on January 4. They are also calling for a day of protest in Punjab on Monday, which will still allow emergency services to function. Farmers have received support from various groups, including transporters and traders.

The Supreme Court has given the Punjab government until December 31 to convince Dallewal to go to a hospital. The court questioned why some farmer leaders were not allowing Dallewal to be treated. Dallewal, however, released a video saying he is fasting on his own choice and believes it’s important to save farmers who are suffering from debt.

In addition to the fair price for crops, farmers are also asking for debt cancellation, pensions, no higher electricity bills, and justice for those affected by violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021.
