Lothal, India – On Saturday, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced an exciting project called the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat. This project, which costs ₹4,300 crores, aims to make India a leading maritime nation. During his visit, Sonowal reviewed the project with fellow ministers and Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The first part of the project, known as phase 1-A, will cost about ₹1,200 crores and is expected to be finished by August 2025. So far, 65% of this phase is already completed. The entire complex will be finished by 2028 and includes a jetty walkway, galleries, and the ancient town of Lothal.

Phase 1 has 14 galleries, while phase 2 will focus on recreating Lothal as it was thousands of years ago. Sonowal is optimistic about the completion, saying it will attract tourists, offer maritime education, and encourage collaboration in the maritime industry.

The NMHC will showcase India’s maritime history, using modern technology to make learning fun and engaging for people visiting from around the world. Lothal, a historic city from the Indus Valley Civilization, is vital because of its ancient dockyard and rich trade history.

The NMHC aims to not only protect this heritage but also attract international tourism and help people appreciate the importance of India’s maritime culture. The government has plans to work with 25 countries, including Portugal, UAE, and Vietnam, to enhance this project further.

With exciting features like a 5D dome theatre and various museums, the NMHC promises to be an impressive addition to Lothal and a significant boost to tourism in the region.
