In 2025, Mahakumbh is going to make history in many ways! Organizers plan to set four different world records, including the biggest gathering of devotees ever. One exciting record aims for over five lakh people (that’s 500,000!) to get their eyes checked all at once, with 300,000 pairs of glasses given away.
A special area called “Netra Kumbh,” measuring about 10 acres, will open on January 5. This will allow people to receive free eye check-ups. If anyone needs surgery, it will be available at local hospitals after the event.
Dr. Ranjan Bajpai, part of the organizing committee, shared that the Netra Kumbh will be opened by Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj, the chief guest. Gaurang Prabhu Ji Maharaj will also join as a special guest.
Last time, a lot of people got their eyes tested, but this year, the goal has doubled! They want to check five lakh people with 10,000 eye checks happening each day! Many doctors from 240 big hospitals across India will provide their help. They even arranged dorms for the doctors so they can rest and eat food from their own regions.
The Netra Kumbh covers 10 acres and has 11 large tents this time (last time there were only 5). The process for eye checks will be organized, with patients registering first before meeting the doctors.
Doctors will work in small groups, ensuring everyone gets the care they need. There will also be a special area for distributing high-quality glasses.
Finally, to follow in the footsteps of the great Emperor Harshvardhan, a donation camp for eye donations will be set up. Last time, over 11,000 people donated their eyes, helping those in need of corneal transplants.
This year’s Mahakumbh is not just about gathering; it’s about giving the gift of sight!
