The Chinar Warriors, part of the Indian Army, came to help when tourists got stuck in Gulmarg, a popular place to visit, because of very heavy snowfall. The roads were blocked, making it hard for people to leave.
Responding quickly, the Army helped evacuate 68 people, which included 30 men, 30 women, and 8 children. They also provided food, shelter, and medical care to 137 tourists who were stuck.
The Indian Army shared this on social media, showing how they answered the call for help. In another rescue, they saved a pregnant woman in Kulgam district during the snowfall. The rescue team reached her quickly and took her to the Government Hospital in Yaripora.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, announced that around 2,000 vehicles were stuck in Qazigund due to the heavy snow and mentioned that they were working on clearing the roads. Srinagar and nearby areas welcomed winter with their first snowfall of the year, and more snow was expected.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned there might be light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir until December 30.
