On Friday, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking for a special place for the funeral of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 in Delhi’s AIIMS Hospital. Kharge believes that Singh deserves a memorial where people can remember him.
In his letter, Kharge mentioned their phone call earlier in the day, during which he requested that Singh’s last rites be held at a location where a memorial could also be constructed. He wants it to be a significant place because Singh has made many contributions to India.
Kharge praised Singh’s journey from a humble background to becoming a respected leader, emphasizing that Singh overcame many challenges in life. He expressed hope that Singh’s funeral would honor his important role in the country.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his condolences on social media, describing Singh as one of India’s distinguished leaders. Modi highlighted Singh’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming a respected economist and his impactful work as Finance Minister and Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Modi shared that they had many discussions on governance when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, showcasing Singh’s wisdom and humility.
