In a busy trading day on Friday, Indian stock market indices started strong but ended the day with just a small gain. The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 78,699 points, up by 226.6 points or 0.29%, while the Nifty 50 index finished at 23,813.40 points, gaining 63.20 points or 0.27%. The banking sector, represented by the Nifty Bank, ended at 51,311.30, up by 0.27%.
Most of the stocks on the Nifty were up, with 20 out of 30 Sensex stocks gaining, while only 10 lost value. The biggest winners were Mahindra & Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Bajaj Finance, and Bajaj Finserv. On the other hand, the biggest losers were State Bank of India, Tata Steel, Adani Ports, and UltraTech Cement.
In terms of sectors, Nifty Pharma saw the biggest rise, gaining 1.3%, followed by Nifty Auto at 0.97% and Nifty Healthcare at 0.8%. The sectors that struggled included Nifty Metal (down 0.96%), Nifty PSU Bank (down 0.89%), Nifty Oil & Gas (down 0.68%), and Nifty Consumer Durables (down 0.55%).
