In a big announcement, Denmark will boost Greenland’s defenses by giving $1.5 billion in new resources. This includes adding two elite sled dog teams! This news comes right after President Trump expressed interest in buying Greenland, but Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen says there’s no connection. He stated, “It’s funny this comes out with Trump’s comments, but we need to invest more in the Arctic.”

The new defense plan will improve Greenland’s safety. It includes buying two new patrol boats, two long-range drones, and adding two more sled dog teams. The sled dogs have been part of Greenland’s patrols since World War II, with the famous Sirius Dog Sled Patrol being an elite unit of the Royal Danish Navy. They are skilled at moving through the tough Arctic landscape and often carry rifles and pistols on their patrols.

Besides the sled dogs, Denmark is thinking about increasing staff at the Greenland command center and upgrading airports for advanced military planes like the F-35 jets. Poulsen mentioned that Denmark is a NATO member and will work with the US to protect Greenland.
