The Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Tuesday that there were no unfair changes to voter lists during the recent Maharashtra assembly elections. This statement came after the Congress party claimed that many voters were wrongly removed and that over 10,000 new voters were added in each area.

The Congress also pointed out a surprising spike in voting percentages from 5 pm to the final count announced around 11:30 pm on election day. However, the ECI clarified that it’s normal to see differences in these numbers. They explained that the figures counted after 5 pm include more votes that are finalized, and these changes should not be a cause for concern.

The ECI stated that it is impossible to change the actual voting data because it is recorded in a formal document seen by representatives of all candidates right when voting ends at polling stations. The Commission emphasized that they followed all the proper rules when preparing the voter lists in Maharashtra. They also noted that Congress members actively participated in this process.

The ECI assured Congress that the information they requested about voters in each area is available on the CEO Maharashtra website and can be downloaded. The Commission encouraged cooperation with all political parties and welcomed helpful suggestions for improvement.
