Today, protests broke out in Parliament after Home Minister Amit Shah made a comment saying “Ambedkar is the fashion.” This led both BJP and Congress members to blame each other for pushing and shoving while trying to enter the Parliament building.
During the chaos, two BJP members of Parliament (MPs), Mukesh Rajput and Pratap Chandra Sarangi, got hurt and had to be rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. They are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) receiving medical care. A hospital spokesperson, Ajay Shukla, reported that both MPs are being treated to stabilize their conditions. Sarangi arrived with a deep cut on his head and had lost a lot of blood, while Rajput had a head injury along with high blood pressure.
Parliament sessions, both in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, were stopped due to noisy protests from the Opposition. They demanded an apology from Amit Shah for his comments about B.R. Ambedkar, who was key in writing the Indian Constitution. Dressed in blue, the Opposition MPs, including Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, protested on Parliament’s grounds. They held signs that said “Main Bhi Ambedkar,” “Jai Bhim,” and “Amit Shah maafi maango” which means “I am also Ambedkar,” “Victory to Bhim,” and “Amit Shah, apologize” in Hindi.
In response, BJP members also protested, calling for apologies from the Congress Party for what they described as insulting Ambedkar. The two groups shouted slogans at each other, trying to make their voices heard over the noise.
