The parents of a trainee doctor who was reportedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata this August have asked the Calcutta High Court for a new investigation. They don’t trust the current investigation and want something more thorough. This incident caused a big uproar in the community.
The High Court, led by Judge Tirthankar Ghosh, told the parents’ lawyer to include the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in their request and to return to court on December 23.
What Happened:
On August 9, the body of the PG trainee doctor was found in a seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The main suspect is Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer working for the Kolkata Police.
Recently, the Sealdah court granted bail to the hospital’s former principal, Sandip Ghosh, and a police officer named Abhijit Mondal. They were released because the CBI didn’t file charges against them within 90 days. Ghosh is accused of hiding evidence, while Mondal is accused of delaying a formal police report after the body was found.
The CBI has filed charges against Sanjay Roy. According to the CBI, Roy allegedly committed the crime while the victim was sleeping in the hospital room during a break.
