The Manipur government has lifted the internet ban that was in place in nine districts since November 16. This decision was made because there have been no new violent incidents recently. N. Ashok Kumar, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, said that the government checked the safety of the area and decided to allow internet services again in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam, and Pherzawl.
The Governor of Manipur has officially ended the internet suspension. However, they reminded everyone to use the internet responsibly and warned that any trouble could lead to a temporary ban in the future.
Recently, violence broke out in Jiribam district after the bodies of six women and children were found. Armed groups clashed with security forces, resulting in the death of around 10 armed militants. Two CRPF officers were also injured in the fighting. Some local groups said that those who died were village volunteers, not militants. A security advisor stated that since May 3 last year, at least 258 people have lost their lives in the ongoing violence.
