The protest was led by Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, who started the march on Sunday. Supporters are demanding the release of Imran Khan, who has been in jail for over a year and faces many charges, including corruption and misuse of power.
Protests continued into Tuesday, with supporters making their way toward a key area called D-Chowk. Videos showed protesters wearing gas masks while battling heavy police presence. Shipping containers blocked roads, making it hard for people to travel.
The police reported that 119 officers were hurt during the protests. To keep people safe, all schools in Islamabad were closed, and mobile phone services were suspended in some areas. Local authorities also banned gatherings of more than five people.
Despite the chaos, Bushra Bibi encouraged protesters from a truck, telling them to stay strong in their fight to free her husband
